after a slight detour in china

made it to hanoi. had a bit of a stopover in china. after getting flights from hervey bay to brisbane then sydney we had a 16hour stopover in guangzhou china. the flight from australia to china was stress free, however, we were both exhausted when we got to guangzhou airport. rather than sit around the airport for 16 hours we decided to get a hotel room nearby and sleep for the day. the friendly staff at the airport organised us to stay at the Good East Hotel which was a 10 minute drive on courtesy bus. i must say the hotel had seen better days and looked like it was going through a major renovation. however, for $40 we got an average shower and a comfy bed for the day. the hotel was located in the suburbs and we decided to have a little wander around. not much to report on other than some blank stares from locals and heat and dust. this is a view from our hotel window. stunning.
after a shower some sleep and a game of uno we headed back to airport for a meal (wonton for jen and beef noodles for me) and headed to hanoi.
arrived in hanoi around midnight. drive from airport was interesting. everything you hear about driving in hanoi is true and a little more. had a couple of white knuckle moments. made it to hotel all safe and sound. hotel staff at elite are awesome. gave us a lovely mangoe smoothie and went through our stay with them. then it was time for some rest before our first day in hanoi.
